Apr 29/30, 1999: Model Jessica Lall shot dead at Tamarind Court, a restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani in south Delhi. Siddharth Vashisht, alias Manu Sharma, is main suspect.
This was the headlines in a famous daily on the 30th of April. People just read through the article as just another case of a Delhi girl being murdered.. Only coz murders were getting a bit too common in India.. A country where Crime rates are shockingly high!! And this was not just another case.. This was a case which was going to create real shockwaves in India and affect many influential people!!
Moving on.. Jessica Lall -A Celebrity Bar Maid at Tamarind Court.. A hotel owned by a high profile Delhiite, Bina Ramani.. Manu Sharma. The son of Venod Sherma, a former Union minister from Haryana.The convict visited the hotel on the wee hours of 29th of April 1999.. And being served liquor by Jessica Lall.. Liquor began taking its toll on Manu Sharma.. He was in a very intoxicated state.. .Approaching Jessica Lall for another drink.. Which she refuses.. The next moment.. Manu Sharma fires the gun in the air.. And.. Jessica Lall Shot dead.. Shot in the head. Murdered brutally only because she refused him a drink!!
Quoting the prosecution in the murder case!! "Sharma took out a pistol when he was refused a drink and said "I will do it my way" before shooting once in the air and then firing a single bullet at Lall.
Think guys.. Isn’t this sheer money power??? People from the higher rungs of the society don’t give a damn to the lives of middle class people!! This is the naked truth. They play the money game and they know very well that money can buy them anything. Even justice. Which was the trend al these days..
But finally Justice has prevailed in the Jessica Lall murder case. The main accused Manu Sharma has been convicted and charged under the IPC Sec 302!! Two others were also found guilty of destroying evidence and conspiracy. The sentence will be decided by Wednesday. The prosecution could convict the accused on the basis of the socialite Bina Ramani's testimony. The case was mainly re considered due to mass public appeal and the media attention that the case received.. The JUSTICE FOR JESSICA Campaign By NDTV proved to be a real good one in getting public support and thus highlighting the case and giving it the necessary attention that it required.. If this Partnership of Public and the influential media grows more and more f cases like this can be brought out to the forefront and justice done.. The verdict today proves that JUSTICE IS ABOVE ALL AND FINANCIAL POWER OR POLITICAL POWER CANNOT BUY JUSTICE!!

This justice is not the real justice.. what is the point in getting a result after 15 years ... this is just one in a billion cases.. . and laloos acquittal today shws what crap the law does 4 the citizens..
Well said hari, but then this case was in the limelight of the media for the last few months. Even if it helped the channel in question get more TRP rating's it's a good initiative and that needs to be applauded. But this not the case about 10-15 murders taking place everyday. The media showed interest maybe coz the culprits in this case happened to be high profile men or maybe coz it happened in a kool joint. If only the public get's aware of what's happening around WITHOUT any channel telling them about it, that's when India's gonna go really fast!

You see, you might argue saying justice is justice even if received decades later.
But, I feel Jessica Lall murder case was so sensationalized because she is also a high profile hip society high class woman. Now what if it was some dalit woman in her place, would she get justice?
What about that dickhead mumbai politician's son who ran over 5-6 roadside paupers in Carter Road recently? Its not even being sensationalized, though those people were MURDERED!
What about Salman Khan killing that one guy in a drunken stupor with a vehicle not even his own??

And abt the dalit stuff.. mite be the politician's turn to project the case.. for gettin the dalit bank of votes.. and ur comment leaves me thinkin of the politician's son.. i dint follow that one too much !! and Abt salman.. he has got many a case going on in different courts and he is in and outta Courts naa ???

Salman Khan, he is in and out of courts, not because of the murder of a dalit, but for the 'murder' of a buck...
Shows how a buck's life is valued more than a human's life.

Coming to Hari's blog, yes of course jessica's case got a verdict finally but i would agree with what dhiraj said. Justice in India is becoming crapy towards citizens. There r so many cases that r pending.Unbelievably too many. Common man tend not to file a case in India for the soul reason that the decision made by the court will take ages and they feel better to stay back instead. The point on media is right. It is coz of too much attention shown by media and people that drove the court to this decision atleast now. Guess if that had not happened the case wud have been still pending...

i think the most important long term outcome of the case will be the role of the media. The public will be forced to go for high profile media campaigns everytime. The media's role is questionable as they tend to dump a story if it loses public interest. Also their approach to certain other cases like Sanjay Dutt's arms case where he is projected in lines of his reel identity Munnabhai
